Jean Shepherd’s ‘A Christmas Story’ comes to Schreiber High School

The Island Now

This Nov. 22-24, Schreiber Theatre Company will be treating our community to a magical production of the timeless tale, A Christmas Story.

Adapted from the motion picture by Philip Grecian, A Christmas Story is humorist Jean Shepard’s tale of growing up in Indiana in the early 1940s.

It follows 9-year-old Ralphie Parker in his quest to get a genuine Red Ryder BB gun for Christmas. Ralphie pleads his case before his parents, his teacher and even Santa Claus himself. The consistent response is always, “You’ll shoot your eye out!”

All the elements from the beloved motion picture are here, including school bully, Scut Farkas; an extremely bundled up little brother, Randy; an experiment with a wet tongue on a cold lamppost; the Little Orphan Annie decoder pin; the Bumpus hounds; Ralphie’s father winning the “leg lamp” (a major award!), and many more.

Directed by Christine Nelson, this Schreiber Theatre Company production includes the talents of Alana Bernstein, Hannah Brooks, Noah Corsitto, Hannah Devlin, Emily Djohan, Miles Engel, Emily Gallucci, Samantha Goldman, Ryan Joslyn, Hannah Loeb, Robbie Meade, Lara Ozcayir, Dylan Schor, Bryson Shaub, Gavin Shaub, Max Siskin, Abby Smith, Nikki Stern, Derrick Weisburd & Christopher Williams.

The production team also includes producer, Lauren Foster-Holzer, set artists/builders Helen and Richard Albertson, propmasters Leah Siskin & Jessica Day Griffin, costume assistant Beth Weisburd, and student assistant director, Ben Hegarty.
