The Art Guild of Port to host juried contest

The Art Guild invites all artists to enter “Works On Paper,” a juried competition and exhibition.

All styles are welcome.

Works must have a paper (or synthetic paper) substrate.

Mediums may include but are not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, ink, dyes, pencil (graphite or colored), charcoal, marker, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints or sculpture with pedestal.

All artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), are invited to submit up to three works for consideration.

The deadline for submissions is midnight on Feb. 10.

Juror of Awards: Award winning artist Kyle Blumenthal’s life is steeped in art.

From a very early age, she immersed herself in art books, art prints and art works.

Her father was a sculptor and served as her first teacher.

Her paintings of international conductors and soloists at Lincoln Center have won her critical acclaim.

Her exhibits in the greater New York area and on Long Island have earned high praise.

She has taken special awards at the Sodarco Gallery in Montreal several times.

Her commercial illustrations have been used by Panasonic, CBS, ABC and NY News One.

In addition to creating art, Kyle is a teacher and mentor, especially teaching students in college and high school.

The exhibit will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset from March 4 to April 2.

Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. or by appointment.

An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Sunday, March 5 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Classes for children and adults run year-round and include Drawing for Beginners and Intermediates, Landscape Painting for Beginners and Intermediates, Watercolor for Beginners or Intermediates, The Still Life in Oil, and Life Drawing from the Model (non-instructional).

Sip & Sketch, a non-instructional drawing session with a live model, meets on the second Thursday evening of every month.

An Advanced Studio for High School Students begins Feb. 9.

A workshop, Watercolor with Joyce Hicks, is scheduled for June 22-25.

The Art Guild of Port Washington, Inc., is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization providing encouragement, education and a forum for the appreciation of the visual arts.

The Art Guild strives to offer residents from local and neighboring communities an avenue to broaden their creative pursuits.

It is an organization open to all people with a common goal to advance the visual arts.
