Art League announces winners of photo contest

The Island Now

The Art League of Long Island’s juried exhibition “The Long Island Life” asked photographers to capture the essence of what living on Long Island meant to them.  

Exhibition juror Neill Scholl selected 60 photos out of 366 images submitted, and out of those 60 photos, six were selected for awards of excellence and honorable mentions.

The exhibit will be on view in the Art League’s Jeanie Tengelsen Gallery July 2 through July 24.  

On Thursday, July 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in a lecture by Neill Scholl titled “Photography as DNA Art: Driven to Record,” the juror will discuss his work and the work of historical Long Island photographer Hal Fullerton and his efforts to restore Fullerton’s catalog of work.  

The lecture is free and open to the public.

The Art League of Long Island is located at 107 East Deer Park Road in Dix Hills. 

The gallery is open to the public, free of charge, Monday through Thursday 9 a.m. – 9 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m. – 4 p.m., and on weekends 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
