Holocaust center to host book discussion

The Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County will present a reception and book discussion celebrating the publication of “After the Silence: Reflections of the Descendants,” an anthology edited by Lillian Gewirtzman and Karla Nieraad, on Sunday, April 2 at 2 p.m.

Gewirtzman and the American contributors to the anthology, who are second and third generation descendants of Jews and Germans, will read excerpts and lead a discussion highlighting the themes in the book.

Struggling with questions, having grown up in families that often remained silent — on both sides — these children and grandchildren, Jews and Germans, both from New York and Ulm, have come together in this book.

The program will include a discussion of the development of the book, as well as a question and answer session after the readings.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase and to be signed.

Light refreshments will be served.

There is a suggested donation of $10 to attend.

To RSVP, contact Deborah Lom at 516-571-8040 or dlom@hmtcli.org.
