Doggies shine at the 4th annual barkfest

The Island Now

The Fourth Annual Nassau Barkfest was recently held at Eisenhower Park, East Meadow, which is also a host site for rescue groups and animal friendly organizations with puppies and dogs for adoption.

The event drew thousands of attendees that enjoyed a pet costume contest and parade complete with prizes, according to a press release from the Nassau County executive office.

“I thank everyone that participated in our Pet Food Donation Drop that took place at the 4th Annual Nassau Barkfest,” Nassau County Executive Edward Mangano said.  “Thanks to our residents we were able to bring donated pet food items to the Long Island Cares Pantry in Freeport — these pet food items will help feed pets in need, which in turn keeps pets with their loved ones and out of shelters.”

Anyone interested in donating pet or regular food items, please feel free to contact the Freeport Long Island Cares Facility at (516) 442-5221 or visit during operating hours 84 Pine St. in Freeport.
