The exhibition “Me, Myself, and My Dirty Laundry” was recently announced to be open through Monday, Nov. 21 in the Sculpture Studio Gallery on the east side of LIU Post.

A reception was scheduled to be held on Thursday, Nov. 17, which was open to the public.

The exhibition was conducted through the clinical art therapy program at LIU Post, which offers a creative educational experience that leads to a Master of Arts in Clinical Art Therapy, according to a press release from LIU Post.

AnnCharlotte Tavolacci, a working artist and adjunct professor in the LIU Post graduate art therapy program, teaches a course called Drawing, Painting and Sculpture for the Art Therapist, and spoke of her class as being “exteremely personal.”

“As students have to open up in the class because they will eventually have to do it once they become an art therapist,” Tavolacci said. “As an art therapist, they will have to ask someone to deal with issues in a similar way.”

According to Tavolacci, students have to work on directives each week, and also write a thesis.

Victor D. Franco, a graduate art therapy student in the class, based his theme around the idea of growing up too fast.

“This body of work explores personal fears that have arisen with growing up too fast, and the exploration of layers due to the belief that one self- actualizes through an onion-like ‘peeling’ process,” Franco said.
