Temple to host doctor at end-of-life talk

The Island Now

Temple Judea will host a physician from Northwell Health on Friday evening, Nov. 18 at our 8 p.m. Shabbat service.
Dr.  Steven Walerstein, the associate chief medical officer of Northwell Health and a representative of the CHAT Project will present a program regarding advance care planning and end-of-life decision-making.
These are issues people need to address with their loved ones but often avoid because of their anxiety.
The CHAT (Conversations: Health and Treatments) Project of Northwell Health and the Maurice A. Deane School of Law of Hofstra University has been designed to help family members communicate better with each other and their clinicians about these sensitive matters so they may have greater peace of mind at difficult times.
The Conversation Sabbath campaign associated with this project recognizes how receiving this message with the support of clergy helps congregants break the ice to start these conversations.
Rabbi Todd Chizner will first discuss the Jewish perspective regarding advanced care planning, and will be followed by Dr. Walerstein, who will discuss the issue from professional and personal vantage points before addressing your questions.
The community is invited to join us for what is sure to be an informative and thought-provoking evening
This event is open to anyone affiliated with Temple Judea and to the community.
Temple Judea of Manhasset is located at 333 Searingtown Road in Manhasset.
