Based loosely on Puccinis’ La Boheme, RENT follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive and create in NYC’s Lower East Side. All seats are $35. September 10 through October 2.

2. Weekend Activities  at Old Bethpage Village Restoration

Company H. 119th Civil War Encampment: Experience life at a Civil War era encampment. Complete with camp life exhibitions, tent set-up, displays, military drills and firing demonstration.

3. Last Chance Animal Rescue Adoption Day:

Last Chance Animal Rescue is a charitable, not-for profit 501(c)(3) organization, created to save the lives of animals.  They rescue animals that are located in “KILL” facilities and underwrite the costs of relocating them to “NO KILL” facilities and foster homes in hopes of finding them a forever family. Their Adoption Program has successfully found homes for over 8,000 cats and dogs since December of 2008. Their Middle Mutts Program has saved over 15,000 cats and dogs since March of 2011.

4. Old Time Baseball:

Watch as teams from the 1864 League play base ball (as it was spelled then) following the rules and customs of the 19th century in vintage uniforms. Sunday, September 11, 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

5. Kubo and the Two Strings– AMC 

Sensory Friendly Film.

AMC Sensory Friendly Films helps families affected by autism. They offer monthly films so that kids can enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment. Each program has their lights up, the sound turned down, and audience members are invited to get up and dance, walk, shout, or sing! Scruffy, kindhearted Kubo ekes out a humble living while devotedly caring for his mother in their sleepy shoreside village when he has to find the magical suit of armor once worn by his fallen father.  Experience all the emotions as Kubo embarks on a thrilling odyssey as he faces his family’s history, navigates the elements, and bravely fights for the earth and the stars.

6. Isn’t Life Grand? Walk and Craft

Invite your elders to celebrate your roots at Grandparent’s Day at the Gardens. A guided tour of all things grand will discuss early generations of the Phipps and their family tree. Later, continue your story when family members collaborate to create a symbolic crest to add to their take home My Family Story book. Free with admission, but supplies are limited.
