Wilkerson to talk on climate change threat

Retired Col. Lawrence Wilkerson will be the guest in the pulpit at Temple Emanuel of Great Neck, where he will offer a talk “The Consequences of Climate Change: A National Security Perspective,” on Friday, Dec. 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Wilkerson is a visiting professor of government and public policy at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., according to a press release from Temple Emanuel of Great Neck.
His last positions in government were as Secretary of State Colin Powell’s chief of staff from 2002 to 2005, and associate director of the State Department’s policy planning staff under the directorship of Ambassador Richard N. Haass. 
Before serving at the State Department, Wilkerson served 31 years in the United States Army, including as deputy executive officer to then-General Colin Powell when he commanded the United States Army Forces Command in 1989, special assistant to General Powell when he was chairman of the joint chiefs of staff from 1989 to 1993, and as director and deputy director of the United States Marine Corps War College at Quantico, Va., from 1993 to 1997. 
Since leaving the State Department, Wilkerson speaks to groups across the country, publishes articles in newspapers and magazines across the country, and regularly offers commentary on television.
Colonel Wilkerson’s talk will be preceded by a brief service. 
Following his talk, there will be a Q&A, and, in conclusion, refreshments will be served. 
All members of the community are invited to attend. Admission is free.
