Great Neck Public Schools released their 2017-2018 “property tax report card” on Friday, showing an overall budget, tax levy and student enrollment increase.
The budget’s proposed school year property tax levy is $198.56 million, about 1.26 percent higher than the current $196 million. It also calls for increasing permissible exclusions to the tax levy limit from $6.85 million to $7.08 million.
The proposed budget is $223.3 million, 1.9 percent higher than the current $219.1 million. Public school enrollment is meanwhile projected to increase from 6,354 to 6,527, or 2.72 percent.
“More than 75 percent of the budget goes towards instruction,” said Lawrence Gross, a 12-term Board of Education member. “There are a number of items that have gone up or down, but the increase reflects the increase in the student population and various new instruction programs.”
