Kensington renewed its contract with Vigilant Fire Company last night, ensuring another year of service with the village.
“We’ve opted to give them a vote of confidence,” Mayor Susan Lopatkin said. “Although we are not a large part of the Vigilant budget, we certainly are grateful for all their hard work.”
The total contract is worth $265,605, according to Village-Clerk Treasurer Arlene Giniger. The fire services fall just shy of $219,000, while the ambulance services are worth $37,708.
The signing comes amidst questions over whether various villages will continue using Vigilant Fire Company’s services. While Great Neck Estates recently renewed their contract with the company, discussions are still ongoing in some other villages.
Joe Gill, the Village-Clerk Treasurer of Great Neck village, said the board will announce a public hearing date for the contract on April 25.
Because the state requires municipalities give 10 days public notice for public hearings on fire contracts, the hearing will likely occur May 16 rather than May 2, Gill added.
The contract would begin in June.
