Village of Kings Point trustees passed two bills after elections Tuesday night, adjusting the village’s zoning code and laws regulating permit applications.

The first law adjusts the zoning code in the village with regard to building and other structures. It formally added the definitions of “gazebo,” “impervious material,” “pergola,” “trellis,” redefined “floor area and masonry terrace” and adjusted the maximum height of retaining walls.

Trustees previously said the law aims to clarify the definitions of certain items and ease the building process.

The board also passed a law that would allow the village to withhold the processing of applications to departments, boards and committees of the Village of Kings Point when violations exist or the applicant has outstanding payments.

Kings Point Mayor Michael Kalnick said the proposal is a necessary measure to enforce current laws.

Kings Point elections were uncontested. Trustees Ron Horowitz and Hooshang Nematzadeh earned 105 and 113 votes respectively. Voters also re-elected Gary Granoff, the village justice.

Meanwhile, in the Village of Great Neck, trustees held a brief board meeting after Mayor Pedram Bral and Trustees Anne Mendelson and Steven Hope won their respective elections.

The village held off on awarding a bid for purchase of LED street lights in the village, Clerk-Treasurer Joe Gill said, because he did not have time to formally review the documents.

The board also approved Strathmore Great Neck’s request to close the road for a block party.

Trustee Barton Sobel also highlighted the Nassau County police report for May, which said that Middle Neck Road has been a hot spot for car accidents. According to the report, around half of the village’s 36 accidents occurred there.
