Kings Point employees rank 2nd in highest average pay

On top of its police force ranking as the highest paid department of any municipality in the state, the Village of Kings Point also had the second highest paid general employees of any municipality.
According to a report released by the Empire Center for Public Policy, the village’s 16 general employees earn an average of $83,233 per year.
“The residents of the Village of Kings Point are served by capable professionals with impeccable credentials and vast experience in their respective disciplines,” said  Mayor Michael Kalnick. “Their hard work and dedication to public service help make our village a great place to live.”
The Empire Center uses a payroll database of both part-time and full-time employees actively enrolled in the state pension system as of August 2016 to compile its data.
The Village of Sands Point ranks first in highest average pay, with its 12 general employees earning an average of $93,652 per year.
In Kings Point, the village building inspector, Richard A. Schilt, earned $140,222 during the 2015-16 fiscal year, according to seethroughny.net, Empire Center’s transparency website that lists municipality payrolls.
Michael G. Moorehead, the village’s superintendent of public works, earned $114,223.
Village Clerk-Treasurer Gomie Persaud earned $106,688.
Kalnick said village employees earn raises based on length of time working for the village, performance and cost-of-living increases.
“The majority have been employed by the village for many years, during which time they have earned both merit and cost-of-living increases to their compensation,” he said.
Although the village has the second highest paid general employees in the state, none of them ranked in the top 80 earners.
Kings Point’s 21 police officers received an average salary of $222,394.
Six of the top 20 highest paid village employees in the state were Kings Point police officers.
In  comparison, the 34 general employees in the Village of Great Neck earn an average of $63,000 per year.
In Great Neck Estates, the 23 general employees earn $52,083 per year, while Great Neck Plaza’s 28 employees make an average of $45,264 per year.
The Village of Thomaston’s four general employees earn an average of $78,221 per year and Russell Gardens’ seven employees earn $61,528 per year.
Lake Success’ 44 general employees earn an average of $57,654 per year.
The two general employees at the Village of Saddle Rock earn $38,180 per year, while the three employees in the Village of Kensington earn $49,093.
