A Brooklyn man was arrested Thursday after he allegedly wrote a fraudulent check for more than $12,000 to pay for an event he held at a Great Neck venue, Nassau County police said.
Police said Darnell Smith, 28, of 820 Knickerbocker Ave., booked to hold an event at Leonard’s Palazzo, located at 555 Northern Blvd.
The event was held on June 13, 2015, police said, and Smith attempted to pay for it with a check in the amount of $12,220.31.
Police said the check was denied because the account numbers were fraudulent.
Detectives located Smith, police said, while he was meeting with his probation officer in New York City and placed him under arrest.
He is charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree possession of a forged instrument, police said.
Police said he will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Friday.
