Operation KidSafe is coming to Manhasset this weekend to give parents an opportunity to develop a copy of their child’s personal information in case of emergencies.

Operation KidSafe founder Mark Bott is a child safety advocate who started the organization 16 years ago. Bott worked with “America’s Most Wanted” host John Walsh, whose son was kidnapped from a mall and murdered, and helped establish the nationwide Amber Alert system.

The free Operation KidSafe event is 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Advantage Honda dealership at 1260 Northern Blvd. in Manhasset and is private for families.

Parents take home a printed bio document, the only record of the visit, with their child’s fingerprints and personal information that is ready to give law enforcement in case of an emergency.

The Operation KidSafe system was developed using consultants from the FBI, police officials and fingerprinting experts around the country. Using all-digital systems, fingerprints are recorded for each hand along with a head and shoulder photograph of the child.

Safety tips to start a family safety action plan are also included.

The event is free for every family. No special information is needed.
