21st century library essential to what GN is

The Island Now

People choose to live in Great Neck for many reasons: the great schools, the suburban greenery, the excellent train service. The quality of our library system should be included in that list.

Our local public library system ranks among the best I have ever seen in my many biannual travels to ALA conferences. We should proudly maintain that record – by voting yes on Oct. 25.

My family has lived in Great Neck since 1969, when we arrived right out of grad school. I have been an academic librarian since 1966. There are national discussions being held today about the future of libraries, and their place in our communities. In all cases the opinion seems to be that we should protect, nurture, and cherish our libraries, and continue to provide safe well-built space for whatever becomes the next hot electronic aspect featured in those libraries. Please vote yes to continue our – and your – support.
