There will be a three-way race for two seats on both the East Williston and Williston Park village boards of trustees.

In Williston Park Village Board, William Carr was a late entry Tuesday into a race that already included Michael Uttaro and Diane Thorp.

Carr filed his petitions to run on Tuesday as a member of the Integrity Party. He said he’s endorsed by Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar, who ran under that same banner.

In East Willstion, Christopher Siciliano and Robert Vella Jr. filed petitions Tuesday at East Williston Village Hall to run for trustee. They join the race with East Williston Trustee John Ferro, who is seeking a second term in office. East Williston Trustee Michael Braito previously announced his decision to not to seek another term in office.

A contested race has also emerged in East Williston between incumbent Village Justice Joseph Sperber and acting Village Justice Emil Samuels.

Uttaro and Thorp recently declared their intention to run in Williston Park under the banner of the Representative Party, currently represented on the board by Williston Park Trustee William Darmstadt, who encouraged both of them to run.

Darmstadt declined to seek a second term on the board and Barbara Alagna, who had been appointed to the board in 2010, decided against seeking a four-year term.

Carr said his decision to run for the board of trustees was based by his sense of civic activism and his feelings about Williston Park.

“I love the village. I’ve been here for 10 years and I have roots here now,” Carr said. “I like the way it’s being run. I’m a doer and I’d like to be involved in decision-making.”

Since moving to the Village in 2002, Carr has served as committee chairperson of the Williston Park Cub Scout Pack 311, assistant scoutmaster of Mineola Boy Scout Troop 45, Saint Aidan CYO interleague basketball coach, Williston Park Little League coach and soccer coach with the Mineola Athletic Association.

He and his wife, Catherine, have four children, Liam, Joseph, Veronica and Rusty.

The Carrs are members of the Mineola School District PTA and also have been involved in the Williston Park Recreation Committee.

“I’ve enjoyed my involvement in the village and school district and feel that I have the energy and commitment to help the current board continue to move in a positive direction,” Carr said.

Carr has worked as an electrician with Local Union #3 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers for the past 17 years. He is also a member of the Catholic Council and the Allied Union Club.

His wife, Catherine, grew up in New Hyde Park and graduated from Herricks High School. She is also a graduate of Manhattanville College and holds a Masters Degree from C.W.Post.

Carr said he main goal is to maintain the character of the village as it is.

“I don’t have any priorities. I don’t have agenda. I live here and I just want to keep it a good place to live,” Carr said.

In Mineola, no challengers emerged as board of trustee candidates against incumbents Paul Pereira and Paul Cusato.

Pereira, who serves as deputy mayor on the village board, is running for his third term as a member of the New Line Party. Cusato is running for his fifth term as a member of the Hometown Party.
