4 North Shore hospitals ranked in state’s top 20

Four North Shore-area hospitals have been ranked in the top 20 in New York state by U.S. News and World Report.

In its annual rankings, released on Tuesday to the publication’s website, St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn was No. 4 in New York, while North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset was No. 9, Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola was No. 15 and Long Island Jewish Hospital in New Hyde Park was No. 20. 

St. Francis was the No. 6 hospital in the New York metropolitan area, which also considers medical facilities in New Jersey, while North Shore Hospital was No. 10, Winthrop was No. 14 and Long Island Jewish No. 23.

St. Francis received national rankings for several medical disciplines, including cardiology and heart surgery (No. 9), gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 16), geriatrics (No. 30), orthopedics (No. 33) and neurology and neurosurgery (No. 46). U.S. News considered it “high-performing” in cancer, nephrology, pulmonology and urology.

St. Francis also had an 84 percent patient satisfaction rate, ahead of both the 65 percent state average and 71 percent national average.

North Shore University Hospital was ranked No. 48 in neurology and neurosurgery and was rated “high-performing” in cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, diabetes and endocrinology, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nephrology, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

Winthrop was nationally ranked in the pediatric categories diabetes and endocrinology (No. 19) and pulmonology (No. 23), and was high-performing in cadiology and heart surgery, gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, gynecology, nepherology, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology.

Long Island Jewish Medical Center received a 78 percent patient satisfaction rate and was given “high-performing” credit in cancer, cardiology and heart surgery, geriatrics, nephrology, neurology and neurosurgery and psyhiatry. 

The Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center in New Hyde Park also received national rankings in several pediatric categories, including urology (No. 23), neurology and neurosurgery (No. 31), nephrology (No. 32), pulmonology (No. 43) and gastroenterology and GI surgery (No. 45).
