The Island Now

Playing a home at Hampton Field this past beautiful Sunday, PAL President Bobby Redmond was on hand to watch the fifth grade Chiefs boys lacrosse team beat the Farmingdale Hawks 7-3.

President Redmond commented on the excellent coaching by the fifth grade coaches, saying “it was the best coaching I‘ve seen in a very long time and great team play.”

The Chiefs great team play resulted in scoring by midfielder’s Michael O’Connell (2 goals, 3 assists), Matt Sluka (1 goal, 1 assist) and attackmen Caden Hawkinson (3 goals), Ryan Dieguez (1 goal).

Chiefs midfielder’s Thomas Albig, Luke Baskind, Darien Lloyd and Joey Ruscillo passed the ball around the field and fought the Hawks hard for every ground ball.

Chiefs attackmen Marc Chiappone, Sean Browne, Mark Marinkovic, Naz Jackson, Jack O’Brien, Julian Alfaro, Nick Vitanza and Ryan Calderone worked the ball in the offensive zone putting pressure on the Hawks goalie.

Chiefs defensemen Anthony Guinta and Joseph Tallini were rock solid as they defended the Hawks in the crease.

Great saves by Chiefs goalies Matty O’Connell and Mike Sinisi rounded out another all around solid Chiefs team performance.

This brings the young Chiefs winning season record to 7-1.

An injured Chief James Reardon was on hand to cheer on his teammates.

All the boys played and participated in the victory. After the game, president Redmond congratulated the coaches and players on a fine performance over a tough Farmingdale team.
