9/11 remembrances planned by villages, town

The Village of Williston Park will hold a Sept. 11 Night of Remembrance at the 9/11 Memorial Garden at Kelleher Field on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.

The names of local residents who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center towers will be read at the annual ceremony to memorialize the dead.

Members of the Williston Park Little League are being organized by former Deputy Mayor Bill Darmstadt for the ceremony.

“On behalf of the Village Board I ask all to come down to Kelleher Field to honor both those who passed away on that fateful day in 2001 and their families, who continue to feel the impact of this tragedy each and every day,” said Williston Park Mayor Paul Ehrbar.

Village of East Williston officials will conduct a Sept. 11 memorial ceremony on the East Williston Village Green on Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

The Village of Mineola will hold it annual Sept. 11 Remembrance Ceremony in Mineola Memorial Park at 7 p.m. Mineola Mayor Scott Strauss, who played an instrumental role in rescuing two transit policemen from the smoldering rubble of the fallen towers on the day of the attacks, will be among the officials presiding at those ceremonies.

The Town of North Hempstead will conduct its annual 9/11 Memorial Service on the morning of September 11 at Clark Botanic Gardens in Albertson at 8:30 a.m. 

Some 55 town residents perished as a result of the Trade Tower attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
