The Island Now

Dennis Kearney was named head coach of the women’s bowling program at Adelphi University on Monday, Aug. 4, by Director of Athletics, Danny McCabe. With 20 years of experience, Kearney was selected to lead the Panthers as a member of the Northeast Conference.

Kearney’s duties at Adelphi include all aspects of the NCAA Division II program including coaching and recruiting coupled with scheduling and budget as well as other duties assigned by the athletics director.

“I am honored to be the new Head Women’s Bowling Coach at Adelphi,” said Kearney.  “Adelphi is known to be a University that is rich in academics and athletics. This year’s team is established with senior experience and leadership and our incoming freshman are a very talented and gifted group.”

Working at Sachem North High School for the past seven years, Kearney was at the helm of the bowling program for the past six after receiving his undergraduate degree from SUNY Cortland in 2006 in the area of Physical Education K-12. His coaching experience includes youth and junior bowlers for 12 years as well as the Section XI All-Star Team this past spring.

“I am thrilled to welcome Dennis to the Adelphi family,” said McCabe. “His experience, commitment to the student-athletes, and his ties to both the bowling community and the regional high schools make him an ideal coach for our program.  We are excited about the future of Adelphi Bowling”
