Village of East Hills trustees Emmanuel Zuckerman and Clara Pomerantz were among 12 candidates in village elections in Roslyn to win re-election on Tuesday.

Not included in that number is one incumbent who opted not to run but was also victorious.

Village of Roslyn Estates Sandy Joel Siff, who declined to run for re-election to his board seat, was re-elected as a write-in candidate, receiving 15 votes.

Village Clerk Brian Rivera said Siff will have 20 days to decide whether to accept the seat.

If Siff declines the board seat, Mayor Jeffrey Schwartzberg will select someone to serve in Siff’s empty seat.

Efforts to reach Siff were unavailing.

Rivera said before the vote that if there were no write-in votes for the seats Schwartzberg would appoint a replacement.

Incumbent trustee, Brian Feingold who ran unopposed, received 23 votes to earn a sixth two year term.

Two other residents  — Allan Mendels and Boaz Ben Moshe — also received one vote each.

Efforts to reach Feingold were unavailing.

In East Hills, Deputy Mayor Emmanuel Zuckerman and Trustee Clara Pomerantz, both running under the Unity Party line, defeated two challengers who had said the board of trustees needed a new voice.

Zuckerman received 847 votes and Pomerantz 933 to get re-elected to four-year terms.

Challengers Neil Foster, an alternate on the village’s Board of Appeals, received 494 votes and civic activist Jana Goldenberg, who was instrumental in securing a partnership between East Hills and National Grid to extend village gas lines to residents, received 431 votes.

“I feel extremely happy and satisfied,” Zuckerman said. “It was a team effort and I couldn’t have done it with the people who came out and voted.”

Zuckerman said he looks forward to continuing his work with the security commission to make East Hills even safer.

“We have a very safe community, but we’re working to make it even safer,” he said.

Zuckerman said the village is currently exploring surveillance cameras, solar power for the swimming pools to make it cleaner and safer.

“Residents feel like we are doing an excellent job and I think the election results speak for itself,” he added.

Pomerantz said she’s happy, humbled and proud to be able to serve the village of East Hills.

“This is my third election and the most stressful one so far,” Pomerantz said. “What I feel sad about the most is that the bond that this village has been broken.”

She said she hopes to continue her work with the self defense class, yoga class and the neighbors for neighbors initiative.

Pomerantz said she’s happy that the election is over and doesn’t have any hard feelings towards her opponents.

Both Zuckerman and Pomerantz said they hope the village can move on from the division that the election has caused.

“Now is the time to bring the community back together and start working together again,” Zuckerman said.

Efforts to reach Goldenberg and Foster were unavailing.

In Flower Hill, trustees Randall Rosenbaum, Karen Reichenbach and Gary Lewandowski were re-elected as well as Mayor Elaine Phillips and Village Justice Dennis Reisman. All board positions are unpaid, according to village administrator Ronnie Shatzkamer.

Lewandowski, who won with 41 votes, said he ran for village trustee again to continue to work with the mayor and board of trustees in pursuing their goals of running an efficient, transparent and supportive local government while also enhancing and protecting the beauty and livability of the Flower Hill community.

“I am very proud to be associated with the current administration which has responsibly managed the village budgets for the last several years and has kept tax bills in check,” Lewandowski said.

Reisman was elected as village justice with 44 votes. This was his first time running after being appointed village justice by Phillips after Justice Bruce Byrne moved out of the village and resigned his position.

Prior to his appointment, Reisman had served as acting justice for five years, filling in for Byrne when he was not available.

“I plan on fulfilling my duties as Justice and dispensing justice in the Village fairly and treating all who come before me with respect,” Reisman said after he was re-elected.

Phillips was re-elected a third term as mayor with 46 votes.

“We truly appreciate the people that took the time to come out, and those that didn’t but have supported us all this time,” Phillips said after finding out the results.

She said her plans include updating the village website and get more online, to help residents fill out forms.

“Away from paper and more online,” Phillips said.

She also said one of the problem areas in the village is the traffic along Port Washington Boulevard and wants to use traffic cones on Port Washington Boulevard to help reduce congestion.

Reichenbach, who was re-elected to a two-year term in the Village of Flower Hill with 42 votes, said she has represented the residents of the village fairly and with integrity and will continue to do so.

“I have faithfully carried out my duties to the village for two terms,” Reichenbach said. “Experience in village governance is important to maintain momentum. Right now, we have a great group of trustees anchored by an excellent mayor. We all make every effort to represent our residents in an honest and straightforward manner. Each of us brings different skills to the board, which results in a good balance of knowledge and experience. The Village of Flower Hill is in good hands.”

Reichenbach added she will start planning for the 2016 Arbor Day Event.

“We will be planting a tree in an island within the community in honor of Arbor Day and our Tree City USA commitment,” Reichenbach said.

Randall Rosenbaum was re-elected for village trustee with 43 votes.

In Roslyn Harbor,  Louis Badolato was elected mayor with 34 votes in an uncontested election. He replaced outgoing Mayor David Mandell, who declined to run.

Resident Jasun Fiorentino won the trustee seat vacated by Badolato in his run for mayor, receiving 36 votes.

Incumbent Trustee Jeremy Rosof was re-elected with 33 votes.

Roslyn Harbor has 1,032 residents according to the last U.S. Census count.

Efforts to reach Badolato, Fiorentino and Rosof were unavailing.

Village of Roslyn Deputy Mayor Marshall Bernstein and Craig Westergard, who both ran unopposed, won re-election with 37 and 35 votes respectively.

Bernstein has served on the Board of Trustees since 1995. Westergard was first elected in 2000.

Efforts to reach Bernstein and Westergard were unavailing.
