Arts Center to revive artist network

The Island Now

The Great Neck Arts Center is reviving The Artists Network of Great Neck, a group of visual artists interested in networking and exhibiting their work. For a membership fee of $75 for the school year (September through June), members will be guaranteed places in two member shows at prestigious venues on Long Island.

Members will also enjoy programs about the work of member artists and other artists in a variety of media throughout history and will have the opportunity to have their work seen by judges in juried shows throughout the year.

Most of all, members will enjoy the camaraderie and advice of artists with long careers in the fine arts and will be able to join working committees to develop and produce programs of interest to them.

The original Artists Network of Great Neck was founded in 1986 by Great Neck Arts Center Executive Director Regina Gil when 65 area artists joined together.

The group grew to a high of 175 members, but in recent years has fallen on hard times.

“The Artists Network was an active, vibrant group in the community,” Gil said. “We hope to build up the membership with the same goals in mind.”

The Great Neck Arts Center provides a venue for meetings, a gallery for one exhibit a year, and administrative support. All are welcome, no matter what their level of experience in the arts.

To join, send a check for $75 made payable to: Great Neck Arts Center/Artists Network, 113 Middle Neck Road, Great Neck, NY 11021 or to pay by credit card or to receive further information, call (516) 829-2570.
