“We all have a relationship with the landscape whether we are aware of it or not,”’ Bachem said. “It is something we see every day even if it is just a glimpse out of a car window. It is as familiar as the faces that populate our lives. It comforts us, engages us, and for those of us who venture out and paint it, never ceases to amaze us! It alters in subtle ways as the sun slowly arcs above us and as the seasons progress. Even the most familiar landscape is constantly changing…just like those faces.

“It was my pleasure to jury this show. After taking technical considerations into account, I simply let the paintings talk to me. A well rendered sparkle of light here and a gentle confluence of forms there. I tried to approach the submitted paintings as I do when I am scouting locations for my own work. People will often ask me “What made you decide to paint that?” I tell them it is because of what I refer to as the “Ooh” factor. You walk this way and that and look, simply look, until something makes you stop and your mind just says “Ooh!” As far as I’m concerned, that is all it takes.  My congratulations to all of my colleagues selected for this fine exhibition. All of the work here made me say “Ooh!”

Participating artists who receive Best in Show and Honorable Mention for their entry in the “Landscape” Exhibit will participate in the “Masters Show” in June of 2015 at the Main Street Petite Gallery.
