Port Washington resident, Nancy Chen Baldwin, was voted to serve as president of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Shelter Rock on June 2. Baldwin is a 19-year member of Shelter Rock.

Baldwin joined the congregation with her family in 1994 when her son Robert was 5 years old and daughter Ashley was 2. Baldwin began teaching in first graders in UUCSR’s religious education program in 1995 and still does to this day.

Baldwin values and appreciates her spiritual community and hopes to continue to grow as an individual in it. Her husband Doug is also a member of the congregation. Baldwin has made many lifelong friends in Shelter Rock and is ready to serve as a member of the congregation’s leadership team.

Baldwin has served in a number of committees in the congregation over the course of her membership. Her involvement includes being a member of the Membership Committee, RE Committee and Personnel Committee. She was an original member of the all Congregational Retreat Planning Committee, Halloween Party Committee and was instrumental in the establishment of a new member cook-a-thon.

Additionally, Baldwin served on the UUCSR Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2001. In her capacity as the vice president of the board over the past two years, she led the search and hiring of the congregation operations administrator while chairing the very active program council and Ministerial Compensation Committee, as well as serving as a member of the visioning task force.

Professionally, Baldwin is a technical engineering director for a large aerospace company with responsibility for more than 600 employees across the United States. She has been actively involved in the community organizations such as Nassau County Planned Parenthood (a board member for six years), Port Washington school HSAs, and Baxter Pond Foundation. Baldwin began her term on July 1.
