Bass talk to focus on U.S.-Israel

The Island Now

Warren Bass comes to Temple Sinai of Roslyn on Tuesday, March 24 at 7:30 p.m. to discuss the U.S.-Israel Alliance. How did the United States develop a strong relationship with Israel since the Jewish state’s birth in 1948? That historical question and its evolution will be the topic of a talk by Bass, senior editor of the Review Section of The Wall Street Journal’s.

Bass’ career includes stints with the federal government, the Washington Post, the RAND Corporation, the 9/11 Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations. He will review the relations that U.S. Presidents have established with Israel.

Bass has explored this subject in great depth in his book, “Support Any Friend: Kennedy’s Middle East and the Making of the U.S.-Israel Alliance.”

The book examines how Israel persuaded the Kennedy administration to start arming the Jewish state. In his talk, Bass explores the pivotal presidency that helped create the U.S.-Israel Alliance and the modern Middle East.

A question-and-answer period will take place after the talk, which will be followed by a book signing. Books will be available for purchase. There is no charge to attend.

Temple Sinai of Roslyn is located at 425 Roslyn Road, Roslyn Heights.  For more information about the above program, contact Ethel Liebeskind at (516) 621-6800 or visit www.mysinai.org.
