Bayside restaurant shines after hurricane

During superstorm Sandy my family ate at Marbella restaurant in Bayside. We had driven by for 50 years (Marbella has been on Northern

Boulvard for 60 years) and never went, but I always wanted to try it.  They had electricity, and Great Neck didn’t so this was a good opportunity. 

We were welcomed into a warm and gracious room with a Spanish Moorish  influence and great iron chandelier.  The waitstaff couldn’t have been nicer, knowing  that we were refugees from the storm.  Luis, our waiter, was warm and gracious with a  great sense of humor.  He made us happy to be there in the midst of disaster.  

The food was excellent! The filet mignon was the best and thickest I have ever eaten, cooked to  perfection.  The chicken dishes were similarly delicious as was the Spanish rice, and  servings were very generous.  The pecan pie (I’m sure it’s homemade) with whipped cream is  the best I have ever eaten except for my mother’s homemade pie.  The freshly baked bread  was flaky, crusty, warm and superb.

The hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Cid and Mr. Luna, were very gracious and attentive  considering our predicament.  

Everyone was so nice that we feel we not only have a  great “new”restaurant to eat at, but new friends.  Thanks to Marbella for showing  their support during the disaster.  It’s a little bit of sunny Spain in Bayside, a great place

with great people and delicious food.
