The Great Neck Board of Education on Tuesday unanimously reappointed Barbara Berkowitz and Lawrence Gross as president and vice president of the board for the next three years.

“I am most grateful to work alongside this board,” Berkowitz said. “We accomplish a lot.”

Gross, who on May 20 was re-elected to the board in a three-way race, praised the accomplishments of Berkowitz, who will be serving her third three-year term as president of the board.

“It’s the president of the board whose role it is to really bring it all together and Barbara does an outstanding job doing that,” Gross said. “It’s not an easy job.”

Trustee Donald Ashkenase praised the accomplishments of Gross, who has served on the board since 1981 and is its longest serving member.

“We’ve benefitted enormously from having Larry’s guidance, demeanor and thoughtfulness in all the major issues that have come at us over these many years,” Ashkenase said.

Berkowitz, at the end of the meeting, told her fellow board members to continue to focus on the needs of schoolchildren and the faculty of the school.

“We have and continue to remain diligent in ensuring that we’re meeting the needs of our children, dealing with what is in their best interest as well as ensuring fairness for our staff,” she said.
