Black, Medley to perform in Westbury

The Island Now

Jay Black and Bill Medley will be performing at the NYCB Theatre at Westbury on Saturday, Oct. 5.

Black began his career with the band Jay and the Americans charting a string of hits on the United Artists label, including “Only In America,” “Come A Little Bit Closer” and “Walkin’ In The Rain.” The group was the opening act for The Beatles’ first appearance in the United States and they went on to open for The Rolling Stones and other top British acts.

During the group’s heyday, they made countless television appearances on shows such as Shindig, Hullabaloo, Johnny Carson, Merv Griffin and Sammy Davis, Jr. and in 1966 were featured in the movie “Wild, Wild Winter” singing “Two of a Kind.”

Bill Medley is a seminal figure in the history of American music.

He is perhaps best known as half of the unmistakable duo, The Righteous Brothers. Their rhythm and blues sound essentially created the genre “blue-eyed soul.”

In the mid-1960s, the Righteous Brothers became a fixture on top 40 radio with hits like “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin,” “Just Once in My Life,” “Unchained Melody” and “(You’re My) Soul and Inspiration.”

As a solo artist, Medley topped the charts in 1987 with “(I’ve Had) The Time of My Life,” a duet with Jennifer Warnes that was the theme for the hit film “Dirty Dancing.”

The show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are $29.50 and $49.50 and are available online at www.ticketmaster.com, charge by phone at (800) 745-3000 or at the Westbury box office.
