A Brooklyn man was arrested early Saturday morning after misrepresenting himself as a real estate agent on Craigslist to rent out a cottage in the Village of Kings Point, Nassau County police said.

James Cadet, 33, of Brooklyn, was charged with fourth-degree grand larceny and second-degree criminal impersonation the same day of his arrest at First District Court in Hempstead.

In April 2015, the 28-year-old female victim met with Cadet and gave him three money orders totaling over $2,000, police said.

The victim attempted to move in to the home in May 2015, police said, when she was unable to gain access into the residence.

Police said she then located the listing agent and was advised that Cadet did not work for the agency.

The victim notified police immediately and upon investigation, police said, the defendant was located in Brooklyn.

Cadet is due back in court Tuesday.

The investigation is ongoing and Third Squad Detectives are asking for anyone who has been victimized in a similar fashion to contact them at 516-573-6353.
