The Metropolitan Transit Authority announced Wednesday buses will replace trains on the Long Island Rail Road’s Port Washington branch on Saturday for more than four hours.

Due to rail testing, service between the Port Washington and Great Neck stations will be provided by buses, according to an MTA press release.

Work is expected to begin at 1:10 a.m. and end at 5:35 a.m.

Passengers traveling westbound from the Port Washington, Plandome, or Manhasset stations will board buses or vans to Great Neck, where normal train service will resume, according to the MTA.

The MTA also said westbound riders will board a bus or van 30 minutes earlier than normal.

Passengers traveling eastbound to the Port Washington, Plandome, or Manhasset stations will board buses or vans at the Great Neck station, according to the MTA.

Eastbound riders should expect to arrive at their destination up to 29 minutes later than usual, the MTA said.

Normal train service will resume after the work is completed Saturday morning.

The Sperry Rail Car, a bright yellow vehicle with rail test equipment, the MTA said, will be used to detect rail defects “not readily visible to the eye.”

The MTA said defects are corrected immediately by LIRR maintenance workers.

The Sperry Rail Car, the MTA said, is used twice per year to inspect more than 500 miles of LIRR tracks.
