Tis’ the season for the annual Manhasset Chamber of Commerce Holiday Poster event for children. Students between Kindergarten and sixth grade are invited to create posters in any medium, from crayon to collage, and on any size poster board to highlight their local holiday store window and the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony at the Manhasset Gazebo, schedule this year for Friday, Dec. 6 at 4:15 p.m.).

All entries must have the student’s name, grade and school printed clearly on the back of the poster. Posters may be submitted to the student’s art teacher or dropped off at the Nancy Morris State Farm Insurance Agency at 22 Bayview Ave. All entries must be received by 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 22. Posters will not be returned to the artists.

All entries will be hung in store windows throughout Manhasset, so students can experience the fun and excitement of seeing their work on display, while, at the same time, inviting all of Manhasset to the tree lighting event. At the ceremony, refreshments will be served, holiday songs sung, poster winners announced and town trees lit. Even Santa will make a brief visit on a fire truck.

Grades kindergarten through sixth grade will each have their own judging category and first, second and third places will be awarded. There will also be an overall poster winner. The winner will be chosen based on community voting via the Manhasset Chamber of Commerce’s website, www.ManhassetNY.org through Jan. 2, 2014. The winner will be awarded a prize at the Chamber’s January meeting.
