‘Chaperone’ on stage at South

The Island Now

Great Neck South High School will present the Tony Award-winning musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” on Friday, Nov. 22, and Saturday, Nov. 23. A parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s, the story concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theater fan. As he plays the record of his favorite musical, the fictional 1928 hit, “The Drowsy Chaperone,” the show comes to life onstage as he wryly comments on the music, story and actors.

Thomas Marr, drama teacher/Theatre South director, related that the original lead producer, Kevin McCollum and his wife, Lynette, who was in the original Ragtime on Broadway, will be attending a performance.

The shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the school’s auditorium, 341 Lakeville Rd.
