Child porn raid nets Floral Park man

A Floral Park man was arrested on Tuesday and charged with producing child pornography after FBI agents raided his house on Monday and discovered approximately 10 pornographic videos on his computer, according to court papers.

The court documents said the videos showed Vincent Calamia, 49, “engaging in sexual contact with boys who appear to be as young as 15-17 years old.”

Calamia was held without bail after being arraigned in federal District Court in Central Islip, according to Robert Nardoza, spokesman for the federal Eastern District of New York.

Calamia, who owns Frankie & Vinnie’s Bar on Jericho Turnpike in Floral Park, was not required to enter a plea when he was arraigned and ordered detained by U.S. Magistrate Arlene Lindsay late Tuesday, Nardoza said.

Federal agents who searched the house on July 7 recovered more than 50 DVDs, several computers, three digital cameras, a web camera, a hard drive and other electronic equipment, court papers said.

Conviction on a charge of producing child pornography carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 15 years in prison and a maximum sentence of 30 years, Nardoza said.

Attempts to reach Calamia’s attorney, William Wexler of North Babylon, were unavailing.

Court papers said the investigation by the FBI and Nassau and Suffolk County police began in June this year when federal agents interviewed a man identified as John Doe said Calamia had sexual relations with him and “several of his acquaintances regularly over the past several years,” when John Doe was less than 18 years old.

John Doe said Calamia had “videotaped sex acts” between them when John Doe was under the age of 18, court papers said.

The man identified as John Doe also said Calamia told him he had engaged in sexual acts with other minors under the age of 18 and videotaped them, according to court documents.

The court documents said federal agents became aware of Calamia’s child pornography activities in 2005, when he was producing the pornographic videos and mailing them out of state.

Agents also found still images of boys who appeared to be 14 to 17 years old engaging in sexual conduct on Calamia’s computer, according to court papers, along with “chats” in which Calamia was communicating with boys who identified themselves as being 14 to 16 years old.
