Club opponents a minority

The Island Now

It is unfortunate that the benefit to the Town of North Hempstead residents of having a new Pool and Tennis Club opened and available for all town residents to join has become clouded by election-year politics.

There has been a small vocal faction of residents that have been taking the position that the establishment of a new Town of North Hempstead pool at the abandoned site of the Roslyn Country Club would be a financial burden to the town and its residents. There is no present merit to this group’s position, as this group has no factual data to support their position, only suppositions and innuendos.

The Town of North Hempstead is in negotiations with the present owner of the property to purchase the land. Until negotiations are successful, the property is evaluated for a proper development and sound financial planning is completed. Any negative (or positive) positions are clearly premature and unfair to the process.

It is prudent to allow the Town of North Hempstead officials time to complete the negotiations and the necessary studies in order to present a clear and complete plan to the residents and not try to leverage this issue into election year politics.

The potential benefit to the residents and our children should be every one’s primary concern.
