The Island Now

Let me see if I have this correct. A vocal, well financed minority for some reason (just before the elections) shows up at every town board meeting in North Hempstead.

Why? To challenge an innovative plan by the town council to bring a new pool and tennis facility open to all residents of North Hempstead….that will be completely paid by membership and user fees.

Once again, the town believes it will cost us nothing in taxes. Over the course of an evening in Manhasset, every one of the cynics’ (well publicized) arguments is proven to be either simply wrong, misguided or pure guesswork. But instead of urging the town forward, they shout even louder, post signs and hype “tax and spend”.

That leaves them as simply naysayers more interested in making a political point than in allowing our elected officials to improve the town for all of us. This invites every thoughtful town resident to simply ignore them. Ladies and gentlemen, please build this park.
