The Island Now

Hundreds of costumed canines will descend on Eisenhower Park on Sunday, Oct. 27 for Nassau County Barkfest. From noon to 3:30 p.m. the county will host Long Island’s largest pet costume contest and parade.

The event will be held at the Eisenhower Dog Run in East Meadow and parking for the event will be located at Field 7 by the Golf Course. Costume judging and prizes will begin at 2 p.m.

“I invite all pet owners to join us on Oct. 27 for Nassau’s Barkfest,” said county Executive Edward P. Mangano. “I thank our sponsors Pet Supplies Plus Long Island and Long Island’s K98.3 for their generosity. For many of us our pets are members of our family and this is a great way to enjoy a nice afternoon together at one of our newest dog parks.”

The event will be held rain or shine and all pets must be on a leash. In addition to the costume contest and parade many rescue groups and animal friendly organizations will be on site to celebrate.

The free event is being sponsored by Pet Supplies Plus Long Island and Long Island’s K98.3.
