A Nassau County Police officer was hospitalized Sunday night after sustaining injuries to his face and knee while attempting to arrest an Old Brookville man outside a bar in Manhasset.

Third Precinct officers were responding to a disturbance call at Green’s Pub at 436 Plandome Road at around 10:45 p.m. Sunday when police said they observed Frank Filippelli, 31, running from the bar on foot and later screaming as he crossed the street.

Police said they then chased Filippelli into an alleyway and back into the street, where Filippelli allegedly slammed an officer into a squad car and punched another in the face and attempted to bite him.

After a struggle, police said they were able to place Filippelli under arrest.

An officer was taken to a local hospital for treatment to injuries sustained during the struggle.

Filippelli, a resident of 66 Chicken Valley Road in Old Brookville, has been charged with 2nd degree assault and obstructing governmental administration.

He was arraigned Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.
