DiNapoli a leader in reining in state spending, debt

The Island Now

In a recent letter to the editor, a writer took an unwarranted shot at New York State Comptroller Tom DiNapoli and his record. I would like to set the record straight.

Tom DiNapoli was elected to represent Nassau County in the state Assembly for 11 terms by his constituents. During his legislative career, he fought to restore fiscal responsibility in Nassau County and prevent fraud and mismanagement in school districts, among a host of other issues.

Since becoming comptroller, he has consistently called for reforms to the state budget and his recent report on state debt put forth common sense ideas to rein in New York’s propensity to borrow excessively. While the critic took issue with the comptroller, he did not take issue with the comptroller’s message.

More needs to be done in New York State to rein in debt, and Comptroller DiNapoli is providing leadership on this issue.
