The Town of North Hempstead honored the Long Island Champion Wheatley School baseball team at its Aug. 13 Town Board meeting.
Councilman Tom Dwyer presented certificates to twelve members of the team who attended the ceremony, along with coaches Paul Paino and Matt Haig.
Wheatley won the Nassau County and Long Island Championships back in June, as well as the Southeast Regional Championship, before losing in the New York State Championship of Class B.
Councilman Dwyer was honored by Coach Paino with a commemorative championship shirt in recognition of the Councilman’s support of the Wheatley High School Baseball Program, and the fact that he played for Coach Paino back in the early 1980’s.
