Village of East Williston Mayor David Tanner is expected to be elected and installed as president of the Nassau County Village Officials Association Executive Committee this week.

Tanner, who is currently 1st vice president of the village officials association, will succeed Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman in that position in ceremonies on Thursday, according to Kreitzman.

“I’ve worked with Dave for a number of years both as officer and members of the executive job,” Kreitzman said. “He’s energetic and passionate about village government and I’m sure he’ll do an excellent job for the village officers.”

Kreitzman said the election of officers recommended by the village officials nominating committee and their installation will take place at the La Marmite restaurant in Williston Park on Thursday night.

Tanner was elected mayor of East Williston in an uncontested election in May 2011, succeeding Nancy Zolezzi. At the time, Tanner cited his 13 years of experience on the board as a prime reason that he said he is ready to “step up” and assume the mayor’s role.

“He was very good, very knowledgeable. He helped us with our bonding,” Zolezzi said. “I wish him all the best.”

Zolezzi has credited Tanner with playing a key role in developing the master plan for upgrading East Williston’s downtown and its new Village Hall.

“He’s a very, very competent individual,” said Lawrence Werther, former Mineola trustee who had served on the village officials association executive committee.

Werther said Tanner is a financial advisor to municipalities in his full-time business as principal of Liberty Capital Services LLC.

Warren Tackenberg, former New Hyde Park mayor and executive director of the village officials association since 2001, said he has worked with Tanner since Tanner first joined the village officials association when he became an East Williston trustee in 1998. Tanner has served on the village officials association executive committee for five years, Tackenberg said.

“His strength is in finance, which he is very knowledgeable on,” Tackenberg said.

Attempts to reach Tanner for comment about his new role with the village officials association were unavailing.

Tackenberg said other village officials up for election and installation as village officials association executive committee officers at Thursday’s meeting include Village of Plandome Manor Mayor Barbara Donno as 1st vice president, Village of Westbury Mayor Peter Cavallaro as 2nd vice president and Old Brookville Mayor Bernard Ryba as treasurer.

“They’re all dedicated individuals. The give a lot of time for their villages. They’re a great asset,” Tackenberg said.

Commenting on her new role, Donno said,” I appreciate the confidence shown in me by my peers. I look forward to continuing our work in advocating for the 64 communities in the county.”
