Fireworks and events planned in East Hills for July 4

The Village of East Hills is celebrating Independence Day by putting on a fireworks show in the community park on July 2. The event will begin at 6 p.m. for village residents, with food and music leading up to the 9 p.m. display.

Earlier in the day, the park will feature a children’s parade in celebration of the holiday. Starting in the upper parking lot at 10 a.m., children will march toward the center of the festival on the Theater Lawn.

Before the fireworks show, there will be a performance by the National Circus Project, which will feature interactive workshops for  residents. Also at the festival will be free giveaways, and an arts and crafts event held in the Children’s Garden. These events will conclude at 12:30 p.m.

The festivities before the fireworks are part of the village’s summer event series “Kids in the Park,” and are sponsored by Joyce Styne of Laffey International Real Estate and her team. Styne has put on holiday events for East Hills in previous years.

“It’s become a real tradition,” Styne said. “We have the fire engine and there’s a big parade marching down, it’s very July 4th.”

She said the park has been an important addition and enrichment for the community.

“I was a very big advocate for having events in the park, and it has added tremendously to the interest of people who want to live in East Hills,” Styne said.

The “Kids in the Park” committee includes:  Robyn Brattner and Ellie Tulumba, co-chairs,  Alethea Shapiro, vice chair, Celia Ayenesazan, Risa Eshaghian, Rachel Fernbach, Tracey Fiddle, Jodi Golden, Rachel Liebman, Jackie Matalon, Danielle Pradas, Elyse Sentner and Shahrzad Taherian. Also supervising the event are trustees Clara Pomerantz and Stacey Siegel, and Deputy Mayor Manny Zuckerman.

The park is open to East Hills residents, with four tickets per residence for extra guests. The pool will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
