Floral Park’s Board of Trustees celebrated two Floral Park Memorial High School athletic teams on Tuesday for their appearances in the state championships this year.

The school’s boys soccer team and girls basketball team both won their respective Long Island championships and went to the state tournaments earlier this year, Mayor Thomas Tweedy said.

“These kids are talented, extraordinary and wonderful to watch during their games,” Tweedy said. “They are dedicated and achieve academically as well. I couldn’t be happier for them.”

Floral Park Memorial junior Natalie Hickman made All-County and All-State teams, Tweedy said.

Village of South Floral Park Mayor Geoffrey N. Prime congratulated both teams and thanked them for playing a great role in Floral Park.

“I am very proud of the hard work and accomplishments of both teams,” Prime said as he gave the teams certificates of recognition.

Floral Park trustees also voted Tuesday night to extend the franchise agreement for AAA Taxi from three years to four.

During a hearing, a AAA Taxi representative said the company contributes money to the Floral Park Library and are good corporate citizens and taxpayers.

Board members said they were concerned about taxis parking in commuter spots at the Floral Park Long Island Rail Road station, but were told by the representative that this will not be an issue.

The representative said the taxi rate will increase to $4 this year because maintenance and repair costs for the taxis have gone up in recent years.

AAA Taxi’s operations manager said every taxi is safe to ride in, and all taxis are inspected every year.
