Former Village of Great Neck Mayor Ralph Kreitzman said Monday he was looking forward to serving his community again after the North Hempstead Town Board appointed him to the town’s Community Development Agency board last week.

“I’m very excited about this,” Kreitzman said. “I think my background in commercial real estate for over 40 years will be an enormous help and it is a very worthy cause.”

In June, Pedram Bral defeated Kreitzman in his bid for re-election as mayor of the Village of Great Neck, receiving more than 72 percent of the total votes.

Kreitzman said North Hempstead Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth, who he said he knows from “years of working with her,” made a recommendation that the town appoint him to the open seat.

“I wasn’t looking for this job,” he said. “I thought it was something that was very worthwhile and worth my time so I’m happy to serve.”

The seat was vacated when former Nassau County Comptroller Howard Weitzman resigned from the agency board, citing a difficulty with attending night meetings, according to Newsday.

Kreitzman said he has been reading the agency board’s bylaws and all of the board’s minutes from the past year to prepare for his new position.

He said he will also be continuing his work with the Water Authority of Great Neck North, where he currently serves as vice chairman.

Kreitzman is also the former president of the Great Neck Village Officials Association, as well as a former president and member of the Executive Board of the Nassau County Village Officials Association.

He said he will begin serving at the agency board’s next meeting in May.

The development agency assists businesses and homeowners in the unincorporated areas of the town with small business loan opportunities, home renovations and various other community “revitalization” efforts.
