A Garden City Park man was arraigned Sunday for allegedly robbing a Mineola bank March 26.

Police said they recovered the money Monroe Williamson, 28, stole from the Chase Bank at 216 Old Country Road after pursuing him Saturday morning.

Williamson entered the bank at 9:23 a.m. Saturday and gave a teller a note demanding money, police said.

After the teller gave him money, police said, he left the bank and got into an All Island Taxi at the cab stand near the Mineola Long Island Rail Road station.

Nassau County police notified the Hempstead Police Department, and officers arrested Williamson at Washington Street and Burr Avenue in Hempstead at 10:05 a.m.

Two employees and one customer were in the bank when Williamson robbed it, police said, but no injuries were reported.

Williamson was arraigned Sunday on a third-degree robbery charge in First District Court in Hempstead. He is due back in court March 30.

Immediate efforts to reach an All Island Taxi spokesman for comment were unavailing.
