GN man accused of car theft, fleeing cops

A Great Neck man allegedly led Nassau County police officers on a foot chase after stealing a car and crashing it while drunk on New Hyde Park Road in New Hyde Park.

Oscar Nunez, 32, was charged with grand larceny, driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an incident without reporting and other driving offences.

Nunez allegedly stole a 2002 Honda Civic that was running in the parking lot of a 7 Eleven while its owner was inside the store on Tuesday night. Police report that Nunez fled at high speed on New Hyde Park Road, where he was involved in a three-car pileup.

Nunez allegedly left the car on foot and was pursued by officers, who placed him under arrest.

Nunez was scheduled to be arraigned in 1st District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
