GN should folo NY public library

The Island Now

Our library and the NY Public Library

Both Libraries have talked expansion. Our GN Library turned down the request as too expensive and possibly unnecessary. The New York Public Library is planning to sell off two valuable library properties and consolidate the checkout into one location: the Main on Fifth Ave.

They store millions of volumes in a low-rent district in NJ and bring the books to Manhattan for circulation, as requested. Our library stores book in a high-value area and shuttles books around as requested. Both OK as GN does not have millions of research books.

At the pool the other day only two people had hard (or soft) covered ‘books’. Everyone else had reading tablets. Their content is light weight and easily portable.

Currently in my computer I am storing about 14 full length films, and a few books. My desktop is probably one square foot in volume. As the school buys/gives/requires a computer few will ever need to go to the library, even for the ‘social’ advantages.
