A Great Neck woman, who allegedly left her two children locked in the backseat of her car for nearly 30 minutes, was arrested last Friday and is now facing child endangerment charges, Nassau County police said.

Virginie O. Cohen, 34, of 19 Nirvana Ave., left her 3-year-old daughter and 11-month-old son unattended in her car last Friday while she returned an item at a store on 1950 Northern Boulevard in Manhasset, police said.

The children were discovered locked in the car when a county police officer said he witnessed the young boy crying in the back seat at 6:25 p.m. last Friday.

Police said the officer was able to unlock the door and remove the children from the car before the mother returned nearly 10 minutes later.

Both children were released unharmed to their father after Cohen was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, police said.

Child Protective Services is investigating the incident.

Police said Cohen was released from custody on a Nassau County appearance ticket and is scheduled to next appear in court on Friday, June 15.
