Gordon Evergreen Corp. looks to open adult day care in New Hyde Park

A New Hyde Park company is seeking to build an adult day care center and medical office at 1335 Jericho Turnpike.

The Gordon Evergreen Corporation is scheduled to appear before the Village of New Hyde Park trustees on Aug. 18 to apply for a special-use permit required under village code for medical offices and clinics

“It’s going to be a center where adults who are not working go for social activities,”  said Louis Soloway of Certilman Balin Attorneys.  “It’s not a medical facility, just an adult day care center. We intend to probably have a physical therapy area and some doctor’s offices which is why we need the medical approval.”

The application was also forwarded to the village Zoning Board as the company is requesting a variance to the village’s existing building code, which requires 84 parking spaces for a building the size the company is seeking to occupy.

The company is proposing only 21 off-street parking spaces.

Soloway said he will argue for the parking variance, citing the presence of a municipal parking lot located across Central Boulevard that has more than 70 parking spaces.

He said he also plans to make a presentation illustrating the need for aging local residents to have a place where they can socialize and receive some medical care.

Notaro Group Architects is listed as project’s applicant in the project’s filing with the village.
