Great Neck Estates Park was filled with hundreds of people Sunday, as local residents gathered to celebrate the Village of Great Neck Estates’ 100th anniversary as an incorporated village.

The sun was out in full force at the park, but thanks to a low humidity level the weather remained comfortable as residents snacked away on ice cream and pizza, as music played from a sound system on a nearby stage.

“It’s terrific to see all these people here today,” said Village of Great Neck Estates Mayor David Fox, addressing the crowd at 7 p.m.. “This park is the crown jewel of the village. There was a lot of planning that went into this, and I’d like to thank our vendors and suppliers.”

Fox said the event will cost the village nothing, and thanked those who contributed their time.

Fox shared the stage with Great Neck Estates village trustees, past and present, along with officials from neighboring villages, state Assemblywoman Michelle Schimel, and Nassau County Legislator Judi Bosworth. Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos.

Schimel presented a citation for recognizing Great Neck Estates for 100 years of service to Great Neck on behalf of the state assembly. Maragos also presented a citation to Fox on behalf of the county.

Neighboring village officials presented Fox with citations as well, as Fox stated his gratitude towards the work of his fellow officials.

“These people deserve your support,” Fox said. “Their efforts on their behalf have made Nassau County what it is. We may disagree, but we should never belittle their commitment.”

Following the announcements from Fox, Motown’s Contours performed.
